About the position

Xcimer Energy leverages decades of research on Inertial Fusion Energy (IFE) combined with groundbreaking new laser architecture. Our mission is to deploy fusion power plants to meet global decarbonization goals as fast as possible. Xcimer has assembled a team of leaders in tough tech, fusion science, and manufacturing with a track record of rapid execution. Supported by leading investors, Xcimer is uniquely positioned to deliver limitless, clean, fusion power to combat climate change. Join us in powering a better world with inertial fusion! As a Mechanical Designer in the Design Integration group, you will be responsible for the mechanical design of small and large pulsed power, vacuum vessel, and ancillary systems; vacuum and pressure vessel/component design, hardware procurement support, overseeing of assembly, testing and operation of the above components/subsystems/systems that are integral to the pulsed power driven rare-gas/halide (excimer) lasers being developed for IFE power generation; initially for Xcimer prototype systems, and continuing through the design and demonstration of a power-producing IFE reactor. We are looking for designers to apply their technical expertise, problem solving skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact the future of energy!

Responsibilities

  • Design of mechanical, electrical, fluid systems, valve, and vacuum components.
  • Pressure vessel/component and vacuum vessel certifications, over-tests, to prevailing code standards.
  • Communicate and interact with mechanical engineering, pulsed power engineering, and pulsed power physicists for design guidance.
  • Follow the design of the prototype system and subsystems through Preliminary and Final Designs.
  • Support procurement of the hardware for pulsed power components (both COTS and manufactured parts).
  • Continue above roles and responsibilities to participate in subsequent amplifier up-scaling leading to that which is needed for a power-producing IFE reactor.
  • Participate in concept studies supporting the use of the pulsed power system in a power-producing IFE reactor, and other applications.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in mechanical design or relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (Solidworks, Creo, Catia, etc.)
  • Complex integrated system design experience (pulsed power, fusion, aerospace, etc.)
  • Interdisciplinary experience a plus.
  • A willingness to assimilate knowledge from senior technical staff (40+ years experience).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee of granted asylum.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance
