About The Position

As a Technical Designer at Gensler, you will collaborate with a talented, multidisciplinary team shaping the future of the built environment. You’ll work across a wide range of project types, including corporate workplace environments, commercial office buildings, and repositioning projects, as well as a growing portfolio in education and mission‑critical facilities. In this role, you’ll contribute throughout all phases of design—from developing concepts to coordinating construction documentation and supporting construction administration. You bring a passion for design, a strong interest in technical detail, and an appreciation for the nuances of furniture, finishes, and materiality. Gensler’s San Jose studio supports a vibrant architectural and interiors practice, delivering innovative, climate‑responsive design solutions across a broad spectrum of projects. Our work includes build‑to‑suit workplace environments, higher education facilities, and data center projects. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in interior design or architecture
  • 5-10 years of related project experience or internship experience at a commercial interior design or architecture firm
  • Proficiency in Revit required
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel)
  • Knowledge of relevant building codes and accessibility requirements
  • Ability to work in person in the office 5 days a week
  • Ability to keep up in a fast-paced environment, work collaboratively and have the ability to take direction from senior designers/architects.
  • Clear verbal communication abilities and are detail-oriented.
  • Possess a visual communication style and can think and visualize in three dimensions

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in modeling using 2D/3D software, such as CAD, Enscape, 3ds MAX, Sketch-up and/or Rhino utilizing V-Ray a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all project phases, including conceptual designs, presentations, schematic design, design development, construction documents and construction administration
  • Collaborate with design team, clients, consultants, contractors, fabricators, regulatory agencies and other vendors to meet overall project objectives
  • Produce graphic presentations, 3D renderings, and construction drawings
  • Utilize hand rendering techniques to communicate design concepts
  • Work in a synergistic manner with other design and professional staff
  • Contribute to office activities, initiatives, and learning programs
