About The Position

The Technical Designer, Knits & Lounge, plays a crucial role in the product development process at KnitWell Group, a specialty retail operating company known for its iconic brands such as Ann Taylor, LOFT, Lane Bryant, and Talbots. This position involves taking direction from the Sr. Technical Designer or Manager of Technical Design to execute fit comments for the assigned product category. The Technical Designer is responsible for managing the sample development process, generating computerized specification packages, and maintaining them through fit approval. This role requires collaboration with various departments including production, product development, design, and merchandising to ensure that quality, delivery, and business practices are upheld. In this position, the Technical Designer will attend all fittings and relevant departmental meetings, protecting brand integrity through fit continuity and upholding construction standards. They will capture team feedback during fittings and execute fit comments accordingly. In the absence of the Sr. Technical Designer, the Technical Designer will conduct fittings for their assigned product category and process fit comments. The role also involves following up on emails from the overseas office regarding fit comments and partnering with Quality Assurance during the Pre-Pro Sample Process for their assigned product category. The Technical Designer must adhere to a cross-functional calendar and ensure that seasonal deadlines are met while managing the fit tracking process. Additionally, the Technical Designer will identify “at risk” styles and proactively communicate potential issues to the Sr. Technical Designer or Manager. Building strong relationships with merchandising, design, product development, sourcing, and other key internal and external partners is essential. The role may require travel to sourcing and vendor development offices or factories to work with technical teams, troubleshoot, educate, and understand vendor capabilities. The Technical Designer is expected to foster a team atmosphere across brands and categories, encouraging open communication and receiving constructive feedback professionally.
