Data is the latest, critical infrastructure. The creation, storage, sharing, usage, archiving, and deletion of data is integral to our existence in the modern world. In fact, the United Nations has deemed access to the internet as a basic human right. The impact to our built environment spans a wide array of project types and scale. Industry and government have designed sixteen critical sectors where data plays an elemental role in the development, communication, processing, and storage of our vast amounts of data. From command-and-control centers to hyperscale data center campuses and a range of project types in-between; Gensler’s Baltimore office is expanding our critical facilities services and is looking for a technically proficient designer to lead this emerging practice area.

  • Design and deliver functional and beautiful spaces within the Critical Facilities Practice Area
  • Provide project team coordination for finished plans, specifications, and material selections; ensure design intent is incorporated into the construction documentation
  • Produce accurate technical and contract documentation for construction
  • Participate in construction administration, evaluate bids, conduct site visits, address technical issues, and maintain quality control during construction
  • Work with consultants, contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives
  • Utilize 3D software renderings to communicate design concepts
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture
  • 1-6 years of experience within the commercial architecture and design field, with recent focus on project delivery
  • Knowledge of building codes, zoning, jurisdictional processes, building materials, specifications, and construction techniques is preferred
  • Experience in construction document preparation and field observation is preferred
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp and other 3D modeling software
  • Interest in, or experience with, design and delivery of laboratories, data center, R&D, command center, high-tech factory, and/or federal, state, and local government facility spaces
  • Active pursuit of becoming a Registered/Licensed Architect (RA) in the U.S., NCARB preferred
