About The Position

The Technical Design Manager is a key leadership role at Memoir Agency LLC (“Memoir”), responsible for developing, maintaining, and elevating the technical design framework across Memoir’s owned immersive shows and select client service engagements. This role ensures that creative concepts translate into executable production realities through build-ready documentation, including 3D models, CAD outputs, site plans, and engineering-ready drawing packages. The Technical Design Manager drives clarity, consistency, and technical feasibility across all production documentation, supporting both office-based planning cycles and on-site execution teams. Operating with defined autonomy and accountability, the Technical Design Manager integrates Creative, Structural Design, Site Operations, and Production inputs into cohesive and field-executable production books that guide safe, efficient, and high-quality installation and dismantle. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Approximately 3–7+ years of progressively responsible experience in technical design, technical direction, production design, or drafting for live events, immersive/themed entertainment, exhibitions, or large-scale installations.
  • Advanced proficiency producing field-executable drawing sets and documentation, including site plans, lighting and audio intent maps, power distribution plans, installation drawings, and technical detail sheets.
  • Strong CAD and 3D modeling capability, with the ability to create models and visual aids that support installation planning and execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to support engineering review processes by producing engineering-ready packages and managing revisions based on feedback.
  • Working knowledge of integrated technical systems, including power distribution, lighting infrastructure, audio layouts, and site logistics.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.

  • Experience supporting recurring seasonal shows or multi-year venue partnerships.
  • Experience producing documentation in revenue-share or venue-based commercial environments.
  • Experience leading a team of designers or drafters across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Comfort working across both office-based design cycles and on-site as-built documentation environments.
  • High proficiency with industry-standard CAD and modeling platforms and Google Workspace collaboration tools.

Responsibilities

  • The Lead Technical Designer integrates inputs from Creative, structural design, and Site Operations into cohesive production books that reflect real-world site conditions, venue constraints, and installation logistics.
  • Creates initial 3D mockups and in-house CAD/modeling outputs for activations and site-wide technical plans.
  • Partners with the Structural Design department to produce technical handoff drawings and packages required for engineering review and approval.
  • Translates technical drawings and plans into clear visual communication tools for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Reviews and quality checks drawings and plans to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with engineering and production requirements.
  • Documents and assists in the development of site plans and technical drawings for use on site, including lighting, audio, and power maps.
  • Assists in the initial creation of production documents, like audio and site lighting maps, in order to increase the overall capacity within the department during high workload periods.
  • Leads the implementation and ongoing refinement of Memoir Technical Design Standards, ensuring clarity, consistency and usability across Memoir projects including the development of an archival document database
  • Consolidates and integrates finalized plans from various Memoir stakeholders into a complete and organized production book for each show.
  • Establish and enforce document version control processes to accurately track revisions and maintain alignment throughout the design and planning lifecycle.
  • Provides technical feasibility input on evolving site conditions, venue constraints, and install realities to ensure assets are installed in a safe, efficient, and consistent manner.
  • Collaborates closely with the Site Operations Manager to create documentation that can be easily understood while creating a complete understanding of install and dismantle tasks.
  • Supervise and support technical designers, draftspersons, and contracted design resources as assigned, providing ongoing feedback, coaching, and quality control oversight to maintain high documentation standards.
  • Support on-site teams during installation and dismantle phases as needed to ensure documentation accurately reflects as-built conditions and execution realities.
  • Participates in production meetings throughout the life cycle of an event to ensure cohesion between the initial creative concept, as-built realities on site, and the overall longevity of assets beyond their initial use.
