As a Development Tools Software Engineer, you will co-own documentation systems and priorities, focusing on enabling engineers, PMs, and SMEs to deliver high-impact, developer-friendly content. You will champion AI-powered workflows and collaborative authoring practices, driving continuous improvement in how technical documentation is created, maintained, and delivered.

Requirements

  • BS in Software Engineering or related fields with 3+ years of relevant work experience. OR MS in Software Engineering or related fields with 3+ years of relevant work experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with docs-as-code practices such as Git-based authoring, CI-based doc builds, automated checks, to keep documentation maintainable at scale.
  • 3+ years experience of software related tools such as compilers, libraries, profilers.
  • 3+ years experience of content publishing workflows such as DITA and IPIX, Sphinx, rST and GitHub.
  • 4+ years of technical writing experience for software projects, including guides, manuals used for hands-on software usage.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience leveraging AI-powered authoring, editing, or content management tools to improve documentation workflows.
  • Experience operating as a lead or primary technical writer supporting multiple products or teams, including setting documentation priorities and making trade-offs.

Responsibilities

  • Co-own documentation priorities across multiple components, focusing on the highest-impact developer workflows rather than exhaustive coverage.
  • Define and maintain documentation standards, templates, and contribution guidelines to enable engineers and PMs to create high-quality first drafts.
  • Act as editor and reviewer for SME- and AI-generated content, ensuring technical accuracy, clarity, and consistency with developer experience goals.
  • Monitor feedback channels such as support tickets, GitHub issues, forum questions, search analytics, to identify documentation gaps and drive a focused improvement backlog.
  • Design, develop, and publish technical content and visual aids for product documentation, primarily as an enabler and reviewer rather than sole author.
  • Assess, revamp, and migrate publication systems to empower engineering teams to own their documentation through rST and GitHub and process documentation.
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate development and publishing of clear, accurate, and concise technical content for developers.
  • Collaborate with non-writer contributors, such as engineers and PMs, to identify automation opportunities in documentation and improving content through reviews, templates, and lightweight training.
