About The Position

This is a one-year term position with the possibility of extension. The position is for a Technical Associate II in Microscopy at the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research-Microscopy Core Facility (KIMCF). The role involves providing support for a microscopy satellite facility and being trained and supervised by the KIMCF Director to staff the biology satellite core facility independently. Responsibilities include consulting, training, and supporting users in microscope operation and techniques, including data quality, data management, and image analysis. The associate will assess equipment needs, perform routine quality controls, and schedule maintenance and repairs of equipment. Additionally, they will prepare, review, and revise written training materials, policies, and protocols, formulate research methods, analyze, synthesize, interpret, and document experimental results, and report on progress and issues at internal and external meetings. Ensuring compliance with safety through a deep understanding of standards/procedures is crucial, and the associate may serve as an EHS representative. Other related duties may be required, including work performed at lower levels, when necessary. The KIMCF serves approximately 90 groups engaged in cancer and other research across campus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in biological, physical sciences, engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of four years of experience in a research laboratory environment including some microscopy.
  • Self-motivation and demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail, excellent organizational, analytical, customer service, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of laboratory safety.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience in one or more advanced microscopy methods such as super-resolution, single-molecule imaging, FRET/FLIM, or high-content imaging.
  • Working knowledge of common programming and data/image science tools such as Python, Java, JavaScript, and/or Docker.

Responsibilities
