About The Position

The Technical Associate I position in Histology at the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research-Histology Core Facility involves providing technical support for a variety of approaches in cancer research and across the MIT research community. The role requires employing both routine and specialized histology techniques, conducting standard and/or specialized lab techniques to support lab and/or research projects or protocols, and performing documentation of experimental protocols. The work includes routine and nontraditional histological techniques such as tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, cryotomy, and special stains of animal tissue, as well as both automated and manual staining methods. The position also involves troubleshooting instrumentation and ensuring an inventory of appropriate lab supplies, while working in a team-oriented environment alongside other facility staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field.
  • A minimum of two years of specialized lab experience.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent organizational, technical, interpersonal, customer service, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate and high-quality work.
  • Practiced documentation skills.
  • Awareness of basic safety issues and ability to follow safety procedures.
  • Flexibility to work independently and provide technical guidance to students and postdoctoral fellows.

Nice To Haves

  • HT-ASCP or HTL-ASCP certification or certification-eligibility.
  • Research experience.
