About The Position

The Technical Associate I position at Griffith Lab within the Biological Engineering - Hardware Innovation Team involves working closely with engineering collaborators and the internal biology team. The role is central to the development, evaluation, and implementation of next-generation fluidic platforms designed to replicate microscale organs, known as 'organs on chips' platforms, which model human diseases in the lab, including liver, gastrointestinal, gynecologic, and chronic infection. This is a one-year position with a possibility of extension, contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of two years of specialized lab experience, which may include experience gained as an undergraduate.
  • Experience using CAD/CAM software such as Fusion 360 or SOLIDWORKS.
  • Experience in micro-scale manufacturing methods such as CNC machining and 3D printing.
  • Experience in ordering tools and components fabricated from external vendors, including iterating on designs, cataloguing, and maintaining inventory of parts.
  • Proficiency in basic experimental methods and data reporting.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical and fluidic QC testing of platforms, including design evaluation, pump verification, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with biologists to support quality-checked platforms during experimental runs.
  • Coordinate with electrical and software engineers to define and resolve issues, integrate design improvements, and support testing of new prototypes.
