The Department of Transportation is currently looking to hire a Technical Assistant to join the District Construction Unit. Your responsibilities will also include conducting technical reviews of the calculated costs associated with materials used in highway and bridge construction projects. A key aspect of your role will involve performing thorough audits to verify that the documentation and work orders submitted by Project Management staff are complete and accurate, thereby substantiating payments. Additionally, you will conduct comprehensive statistical audits to ensure that the final quantities and costs reported by construction project personnel are both complete and precise. You will assist in inspecting construction activities on roads and bridges as assigned, ensuring that all work adheres to the established plans, specifications, and special provisions outlined in the contract. Furthermore, you will support the implementation of work zone traffic control measures, ensuring that signs and devices are positioned and maintained in accordance with the Work Zone Traffic Control Plan and relevant publications such as Publication 212, 213, or the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Lastly, you will assist in the preparation of periodic progress payments as directed, which will involve checking stakeouts, elevations, grades, slopes, excavation, and the placement and compaction of materials to ensure compliance with project specifications.
