The Cytology Technical Assistant performs various functions in the Cytology laboratory. These include, but are not limited to, specimen handling, processing, data entry, client calls, and other duties as assigned. The Technical Assistant will also assist supervisors and Cytotechnologists with daily duties. Technical Assistant must be self-motivated, reliable, and be able to work with other team members.

Performs accurate specimen data entry into the laboratory information system.
Labels specimens and slides accurately.
Processes specimens using equipment such as the centrifuge, ThinPrep processor, Leica auto-stainer, Tissue-Tek cover-slipper, and other instruments as needed.
Communicates specimen issues to management when necessary.
Performs specimen collection duties and rapid assessment processing in Fine Needle Aspiration procedures.
Performs clerical duties as needed, including client calls.
Handles specimens in accordance with quality and safety regulations to ensure accurate cytologic test results.
Complies with all company, department, and regulatory policies and procedures, including compliance and safety requirements.
Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the department and organization by performing other duties as assigned.

High School diploma or equivalent.
Ability to work with a team.
Handle biohazard substances and hazardous chemicals while adhering to company safety, health, and ergonomic policies.
Comply with all PPE requirements in laboratory or biohazard areas.
Complete required safety training and health evaluations promptly.
Anticipate hazards, address unsafe situations, and promote safety awareness.
Perform tasks involving repetitive motion, extended sitting, light lifting (<25 lbs), and reading small print.

Data entry experience preferred.
Customer service experience preferred.
Knowledge of Windows based programs helpful.
Medical Terminology helpful.
