About The Position

The Technical Assistance Provider position at West Virginia University's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering focuses on supporting projects aimed at training, technical assistance, and workforce development for operators and managers of small and rural water utilities in West Virginia and the Appalachian region. Responsibilities

  • Training and technical assistance of water/wastewater utility personnel
  • Develop, coordinate, and lead training efforts for water/wastewater utility personnel and trainees on technical and/or managerial topics
  • Provide technical assistance to water/wastewater utility personnel and other stakeholders
  • Provide outreach to stakeholders on program services
  • Draft technical guidance documents including engineering reports, technology fact sheets, and standard operating protocols
  • Stay informed of new developments and techniques in water/wastewater treatment and management practice areas
  • Assess regional water/wastewater utility needs
  • Manage, develop, and foster relationships with water/wastewater utilities through targeted outreach, utility visits, and conference attendance to identify opportunities for project partnerships
  • Conduct research and data analysis on community water system conditions and trends
  • Conduct stakeholder interviews and focus groups with water/wastewater utility personnel and other stakeholders
  • Support educational and training activities
  • Deliver educational lessons to K-12 students, including technical content and hands-on activities on water/wastewater treatment and associated career pathways for water professionals
  • Supervise engineering students, and other staff, on preparation of training and technical assistance materials
  • Identify new project funding opportunities
  • Assist with grant proposal writing and preparation
  • Communicate with project Subawardees on project schedules and scopes of work
  • Facilitate team communication and scheduling meetings
  • Preparation of progress reports
