About The Position

The Integrated Materials & Structures Technology Team within Boeing Technology Innovation (BTI) is seeking a Technical Analyst to join our team in Berkeley, MO. This team is part of the Composites, Materials, & Structures organization within BTI. This group has a dual mission to 1) Execute Research and Development in the technical area of next-generation thermoset composites, with a particular focus on Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) relevant materials and 2) Develop and mature applications for these new materials through advanced design and manufacturing demonstrator programs to de-risk and accelerate adoption by BDS programs. Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Entry Level, Associate, and Mid Level. This experienced engineer will lead material selection, process development, characterization, and troubleshooting of polymer matrix and fiber-reinforced composite systems for aerospace applications. They also will be asked to lead manufacturing risk reduction demonstration programs to de-risk and accelerate adoption of new composite materials and manufacturing processes for BDS programs. This role offers hands-on exposure to lab-scale manufacturing processes, mechanical and physical/chemical testing, data analysis, and cross-functional project work with early career and senior engineers.

Requirements

  • 1 yr+ experience in a factory and/or manufacturing lab environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with thermoset composite material systems and fabrication processes
  • Experience working with both manually operated industrial equipment and fully-automated processing equipment
  • Experience with CNC machining of composite (e.g., thermoset, thermoplastic) and metallic (e.g., aluminum, steel, titanium) materials
  • Experience with programming for machining operations
  • Some technical college experience

Responsibilities

  • Utilizing hand layup skills, composite trimming, composite repairs, composite tooling and tooling preparation, and providing feedback on composite manufacturability
  • Creating work instructions and defining process specification with composite engineers on the team
  • Operating automated ply cutting equipment, autoclaves, and other laboratory equipment
  • Cleaning tools, deflashing parts, machining parts, and measuring parts
  • Evaluating work performed and documenting lessons learned, helping to develop processes for new materials and improve processes for existing materials
  • Conducting lab maintenance and operations, safety responsibilities, and implementation of continuous improvement items
  • Supporting training and development of other lab technicians and engineers

  • Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
  • Summary Pay Range Entry Level: $42,500 - $57,500
  • Summary Pay Range Associate: $52, 700 - $71,300
  • Summary Pay Range Mid- Level: $61,200 - $82,800
