About the Role: The Accounting team at Planet is seeking an extremely motivated and experienced Technical Accounting and SEC Reporting Analyst as we continue to scale and grow. As a Technical Accounting and SEC Reporting Analyst at Planet, you are someone who is able to roll up your sleeves for hands-on experience supporting the financial reporting process for a company that creates meaningful change. You will play a critical role in developing and implementing accounting policies, enhancing our financial reporting processes, and building a strong technical accounting foundation. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams and external auditors to ensure accuracy, compliance, and transparency in our financial reporting. To be successful in this role, you must have excellent accounting knowledge, pay attention to detail, and embrace challenges as opportunities for success to expand and grow with the company. This is a full-time, hybrid role which will require you to work from our San Francisco office 3 days per week.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of accounting experience, in a financial reporting or Big 4 Accounting Firm Audit role
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other quantitative major
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP and experience with technical accounting research
  • Proficiency with accounting systems (NetSuite and Workiva / DFIN ActiveDisclosure preferred) and Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non-accounting stakeholders
  • Solid organizational and time-management abilities
  • A keen attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Self-starter able to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Thrive in a dynamic, evolving environment
  • Deeply curious and driven to learn

Nice To Haves

  • Hold a CPA license
  • Experience working in a high-growth technology environment
  • Experience with SaaS or consumption-based business models
  • Knowledge of SEC reporting requirements
  • Experience implementing new accounting standards
  • Proficiency in process automation and system implementations
  • A knack for simplifying complex concepts and building scalable processes
  • Comfort handling ambiguity and working with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

  • Support the development, documentation, and implementation of accounting policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and relevant accounting standards
  • Support the month-end and quarter-end close processes, with specific oversight of complex technical accounting areas
  • Research and document technical accounting positions on emerging or complex issues, such as equity transactions, business combinations, and leases
  • Prepare and review financial statements, footnotes, and supporting schedules
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to assess and document accounting implications of new business initiatives, contracts, and transactions
  • Collaborate with external auditors to provide supporting documentation and technical accounting memorandum
  • Drive continuous improvement of accounting processes, controls, and automation
  • Mentor and develop team members, providing guidance on technical accounting matters
  • Support special projects, including system implementations and process improvements
  • Stay current on accounting standards and regulatory developments, implementing changes as needed
