Business Insider is hiring a tech reporter to cover the evolution of AI to physical robotics, and all the companies and financial players who are invested. From humanoid robots to factory automation, robotics is rapidly moving from the lab into the real economy. We’re looking for a reporter who can break news, make sense of how robots are being built, funded, deployed, and monetized, and tell the stories of the people behind the tech. The ideal candidate will cover the founders, investors, scientists and others powering the robotics boom, at companies like Tesla, Boston Dynamics, Meta, Google, OpenAI, Figure AI, and Agility Robotics. That means scoops on fundraising rounds, acquisitions, talent grabs, successes and stumbles, and smart stories on where the hype is running ahead of reality. This beat sits at the intersection of AI, hardware, labor, defense, and logistics. We’re looking for someone who is curious, determined, and excited to chase big stories with real-world impact. Experience in robotics, AI, hardware, manufacturing, or frontier tech is a plus, but not required if you bring sharp instincts, strong sourcing skills, and a passion for understanding how emerging technologies become real businesses. Here are some of the kinds of stories this reporter would work on: EXCLUSIVE: Inside OpenAI's renewed push into robotics EXCLUSIVE: Tesla plans to start training Optimus at its Austin factory Boston Dynamics CEO told us how the humanoid robot revolution begins This role is based in the Bay Area or another major tech hub. This role is union-eligible.
