Texoma Medical Center, a 414-bed acute care facility has been providing quality health care to the residents of North Texas and Southern Oklahoma since 1965. Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program (CST or TS-C) or provide documented proof of previous employment as a surgical technologist before September 1, 2009.
  • Current CST or TS-C certification or be a LVN or provide proof of employment as a practicing surgical technologist in a health care facility before September 1, 2009.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Healthcare Provider course according to RQI program guidelines must be completed during new hire orientation prior to working in a clinical setting.
  • Ability to read and comprehend information related to perioperative operations within the job class.
  • Minimum computer literacy in keyboarding and Microsoft Windows.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to identify and address the special needs of patients of all age groups.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for knowledge of anatomy and physiology of surgical sites.
  • Pass instruments on all procedures or act as an assistant and hold retractors as needed.
  • Practice aseptic technique.
  • Assist in preparation of room prior to surgery and cleaning room after surgery.
  • Assist staff and surgeons to ensure instruments, supplies, and equipment are available when needed for surgical procedures.
  • Work in instrument room as needed.
  • Take assigned call as required.
  • Exhibit knowledge of age specific needs of patients of all psychosocial, and/or cultural backgrounds.
  • Participate with cost containment issues in the Operating Room.
