The position involves performing specimen receiving, processing, transport/delivery/distribution, and storage. The individual will prepare specimens for diagnostic and prognostic analyses and testing, delivering specimens to testing areas as needed. The role requires operating a variety of manual and automated laboratory and office equipment and programs, entering information, performing order entry, troubleshooting, and retrieving and verifying patient collection data and patient special notations using appropriate laboratory and electronic health systems and other applications. Ensuring and maintaining positive patient identification throughout all processes is crucial, and all job duties must be performed in a safe, accurate, and professional manner. The individual will resolve pre-analytic specimen-related issues in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs). Additional responsibilities may include processing, preparing, and shipping specimens for transport to internal Mayo Clinic lab sites and referral labs, preparing and shipping mail out kits, performing reagent preparation and handling, assisting with supply inventory and stocking, operating automated systems, providing training to others, clerical tasks, processing, filing, receiving shipments, cleaning, and other job-related duties as assigned. Adherence to strict safety requirements for laboratory protocols and handling chemicals, reagents, and infectious agents is mandatory. The individual will assist with consultant specimen retrieval, respond to a high volume of phone calls seeking laboratory testing/order information or add-ons, and participate in assigned quality or other lab projects as needed. Professional and ethical conduct is expected, along with demonstrated professional communication skills and proper technique and etiquette for answering the telephone and providing information. The individual must be able to learn and utilize multiple computer systems, demonstrate confidentiality and trustworthiness, and effectively deal with people in stressful situations. Tech I- Lab Processors are an integral part of the laboratory team providing support in patient testing. The ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment, as well as work independently and in a team environment, is essential. The position requires working with minimal supervision and attention to detail.
