MO-SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital 1201 Grand Worker Type: PRN Job Summary: Experienced endoscopy technician with knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology of organs related to the GI tract. Demonstrates a variety of advanced technical procedural skills. Facilitates and provides staff training and education in assisting with advanced endoscopic procedures. Oversight of scope handling preparation, care and repair process. Knowledgeable in GI/Endoscopy procedures and related equipment, infection control practices, patient safety and positioning. Identifies quality and safety improvement opportunities and processes. Acts as a clinical resource for physicians and hospital staff as well as a physician liaison for coordinating and implementation of new equipment and supplies. Job Responsibilities and Requirements: Essential Functions: The following are essential job accountabilities and performance criteria: Position Accountabilities 1) Competence: Demonstrates knowledge of job standards when working. Criteria Demonstrates basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal system. Demonstrates knowledge of all advanced endoscopic procedures including ERCP and EUS. Demonstrates basic knowledge in interventions used during endoscopy including wire manipulations, clips, assisting in performing cyst gastrostomy and combined EUS/ERCP procedures. Proficient in the use of fluoroscopy equipment including the capturing of fluoroscopic images and image transfers to CD or synapse for storage. Proficiency in the use of Provation, operating of video/imaging systems, contrast injection and cine-film projector. Assist physician in multidisciplinary OR procedures in collaboration with other multidisciplinary teams. Able to operate all equipment necessary to complete job (EUS machine, endoscopy processors, ERBE). Promotes a culture of safety. 2) Collaboration: Demonstrates ability to relate to coworkers in a professional and respectful manner, in order to assure and promote a culture of safety. Criteria Assumes responsibilities and ownership in solving problems and resolving complaints Works with minimal supervision and maintains high quality standards. Shares solutions. Avoids blaming others. 3) Safety/Infection Control: Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, adheres to quality, safety, environmental and infection control standards. 4) Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. Criteria: A) Practices universal precautions and disposes of hazardous wastes per established guidelines. Cleans equipment prior to storage in proper place. Maintains storage areas in endoscopy. Maintains a safe clean working area. Inspects area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations and standards. Places work orders for repair of equipment. Reports environmental hazards and needed repairs appropriately. Wears proper endoscopy attire. Assumes responsibility for completing all annual mandatory requirements. 4. Care and Courtesy: Maintains harmonious relationship with co-workers and customers, providing support and assistance. Criteria: Demonstrates positive interacts with other staff, physicians, students and volunteers, recognizing that they are internal customers. Demonstrates respect and compassion for internal and external customers while delivering prompt courteous service. Answers telephones by responding to requests in a caring and timely manner. Assumes initiative to resolve problems, realizes limitations and seeks help as needed. Extends apologies as appropriate when service fails, endeavors to take corrective action and reports same to supervisor. Presents identification to customers by properly wearing identification badge and extending a personal introduction. Communicates effectively when working with customers, supervisors, and other staff. 5) Communication: Communicates effectively with follow-up when necessary. Criteria: A) Speaks positively B) Listens. C) Avoids gossip and stops rumors. D) Asks questions to seek understanding. Shares pertinent information with supervisor and team members. Uses a tone of voice, which demonstrates a caring attitude and willingness to help. Cost-effectiveness: Demonstrates responsibility for the containment of hospital costs, supplies and appropriate handling of endoscopes and other equipment. Criteria: A) Safeguards the property of Saint Louis University Hospital. Recommends and demonstrates changes in practice that increases efficiency and minimizes waste. C) Appropriately uses/handles supplies, equipment and scopes. D) Minimizes overtime by not clocking in early unless requested to do so. 7) Personal Accountability: Demonstrates accountability for own job performance. Criteria: Acknowledges authority, responding appropriately to manager and charge nurse. Participates in additional learning experience to increase competence including: Staff meetings. Mandatory in-services and other educational programs. Evaluations of self-performance by identifying strengths and areas for improvement. Assists in developing and implementing unit goals. Begins duties promptly at start of shift. Functions as a resource person to co-workers, medical staff, and ancillary personnel. Identifies problems, gathers pertinent data, suggests solutions, communicates using appropriate lines of authority, and works toward problem resolution. When not in procedure, seek out opportunities to improvement environment by removing clutter, washing down carts, counting supplies for accuracy and assisting in Holding/Recovery. Asks for assistance when necessary and offers to assist co-workers willingly. Demonstrates pride in the physical appearance of the hospital keeping all areas neat and clean. 8) Age Appropriate Care: Provides age-appropriate care to: ____Infant ___Child ____Adolescent _____Adult _____Geriatric Criteria: Demonstrates knowledge and skills of normal growth & development necessary to provide services to the age of the patient served by the department. Demonstrates ability to assess and interpret age specific data to identify patient needs. Utilizes communication skills necessary to interpret age specific responses to service and interaction. Involves family or significant other in decision making related to services provided. Demonstrates ability to provide service needed for the age groups routinely served by the department assigned. Quality Improvement (QI): Incorporates Quality Assessment into one’s daily work. Criteria: Assists in developing unit based QI plan. Assists in collecting QI data as assigned. Participates in discussion of QI outcome. Specialized Care: Provides specialized care to patients at high risk for injury. Abuse Assessment Is aware of abuse recognition criteria and incorporates it into assessments. Reports signs of possible abuse/neglect to the physician & Risk Management, and recommends appropriate consultations (psychiatric, Social Work) for evaluation. The following job accountabilities may be reassigned. As assigned Transporting patients Assisting in various Endoscopic procedures in the department, Radiology, or the ICU. Requirements

  • High School graduate preferred, BLS
  • 1 year as an Endo Tech performing Advanced Endo Procedures
  • Not eligible if in a PRN work category
  • REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS State of Work Location: Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
