About The Position

As the Technical Director, Advanced Consulting Group (ACG) – Life Team, you will be at the forefront of helping advisors and their clients navigate the increasingly complex world of life insurance, wealth transfer, and advanced estate and business planning . Your expertise in tax rules impacting life insurance, business succession, executive benefits, and wealth transfer strategies enables financial professionals and other Nationwide partners to deliver real value to their clients — and drives growth across Nationwide’s life insurance business. For those living in central Ohio, this is a hybrid position based in Columbus, OH. Candidates located near a Nationwide campus will collaborate in office 3 days per week and enjoy the flexibility of remote work on remaining days . Current Nationwide Remote Associates will also be considered. For non–central Ohio candidates with the right skills, relocation is not . As a Technical Director, you'll drive sales of life insurance, annuity, mutual fund and retirement plans through all distribution channels by providing comprehensive consulting services. You will provide consultative sales strategies in tax, legal and technical areas to all distribution sales channels and internal partners in the areas of business planning, estate planning, qualified plans and annuity strategies. You'll present at firm, broker-dealer and industry functions and represent Nationwide's position in industry forums.

Requirements

  • Expertise : Deep knowledge of the tax rules and planning applications involving life insurance (ILITs, split-interests trusts, buy-sell, executive benefits, split-dollar, premium finance, etc.) is .
  • Communications Acumen: Ability to deliver effective presentations in group settings, speak with partners 1-on-1, simplify complex planning concepts, and write authentically are critical skills for the role.
  • Series 6 is within 120 days of hire.
  • Eight to 10 years of related experience in a combination of law, accounting or financial planning/sales.
  • Strong public speaking skills, persuasive writing skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Proven knowledge of business law, tax, accounting, sales or financial planning.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive experience in estate planning, business owner planning, and high-net-worth life insurance strategies is a significant plus.
  • Experience working directly with financial professionals—including independent advisors, RIAs, BGAs, and producer groups—highly valued.
  • A JD is preferred given the legal and tax-heavy nature of advanced consulting.
  • CLU or ChFC designations preferred.
  • Studies in business, communication or marketing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Sales: Propel the growth of Nationwide’s life insurance products, with a focus on advanced planning strategies such as wealth transfer, ILIT funding, asset protection, business succession, executive benefits, and nonqualified planning applications.
  • Consultative Excellence: Provide top-notch advanced life insurance planning support, including estate planning, business planning, charitable strategies, retirement income planning using life insurance, and high-net-worth case design.
  • Engagement: Speak at firm, broker/dealer, wholesaler, and industry events, showcasing your subject-matter expertise and Nationwide’s ability to be the partner of choice for advisors serving complex clients.
  • Content Development: Ability to create educational white papers, PowerPoint presentations, case studies, one-pagers, and other sales collateral on advanced planning and life insurance concepts — all aligned with Nationwide’s voice and compliance standards.
  • Directs case design by providing comprehensive tax and technical support around sophisticated concepts such as business planning, estate planning, qualified retirement plans and annuity strategies to be funded with financial products.
  • Provides comprehensive consultation to wholesalers, financial professionals and their clients and third-party professionals.
  • Travels and speaks at industry events on sophisticated concepts impacting life insurance, annuities, mutual funds and qualified retirement plans.
  • Builds, advises and reviews sales collateral on the use of financial products used in business planning, estate planning, qualified retirement plans and annuity strategies.
  • Partners and collaborates with Marketing to provide a strategic approach to the development of sales and marketing campaigns for all Nationwide Financial sales channels.
  • Authors and publishes tax and sales related articles, white papers and sales ideas on sophisticated financial product applications for use in business planning, estate planning, qualified retirement plans and annuity strategies.
  • Drives sales by educating professional decision makers on recent tax and legal changes.
  • Crafts, implements and facilitates training on sophisticated concepts funded with financial products for Wholesalers and advisors.
  • Monitors, researches, interprets, applies and communicates current and anticipated legal, tax and regulatory changes to Product Development, Marketing, Underwriting and Business Development.
  • Collaborates with internal business partners to build and implement business plans and critical initiatives.
  • Provides a source of credibility through expertise and reputation in the industry to internal/external wholesalers and financial professionals as they establish their own credibility with clients.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
