About The Position

This position is only available to current, regular, full-time employees of Missouri State University who are represented by the Teamsters Union. The role involves maintaining a safe and secure campus environment through various responsibilities, including regular patrols, emergency response, and safety education. The individual will be expected to enforce university regulations, conduct inspections, and assist in emergency situations while promoting a positive image of the university.

Requirements

  • Current, regular, full-time employee of Missouri State University represented by the Teamsters Union.
  • Ability to perform CPR and first aid.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and emergency response procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a safe and secure campus by regularly traveling through assigned areas on a bicycle, on foot, or in a vehicle, observing for unauthorized personnel or activities, enforcing University rules, regulations and policies, and reporting violations to the appropriate authority.
  • Reduces the potential for injury, loss of life, property theft, and/or destruction of property by conducting area checks for potentially dangerous or unsafe areas, buildings, and conditions, routinely inspecting fire extinguishers, and making on-the-spot corrections if possible or reporting the conditions to an appropriate authority for correction.
  • Enforces University parking and bicycle regulations by being knowledgeable of the regulations, advising faculty, students, staff, and visitors about the regulations, issuing tickets, applying wheel clamps, arranging for vehicles to be towed, and securing and issuing violation notices for bicycles.
  • Responds to weather, fire, hazardous materials, medical, and security emergencies as well as natural disasters, utilizing the incident command system, assessing the situation, and taking mitigation action to protect lives, property, and the environment.
  • Renders assistance at medical emergencies by performing CPR or rendering first aid to the injured person(s), determining the need for additional medical attention, and preparing and submitting a detailed report.
  • Promotes an awareness of safety issues by talking to students, faculty, staff, and others, distributing informational materials regarding safety, and conducting presentations or training as scheduled by the Manager, Campus Safety.
  • Encourages a proactive approach to safety by meeting with the leaders of University organizations to discuss vulnerabilities and assisting with the development of programs to alleviate or reduce identified vulnerabilities.
  • Promotes a positive image of the University by providing directions and information to students, faculty, staff, and visitors regarding campus locations, facilities, and activities.
  • Responds to incidents of crime against people and property, interacts compassionately with victims, provides information on available resources, and documents incidents thoroughly and accurately.
  • Thoroughly, accurately, and professionally documents all complaints, daily activities, and incidents and submits the information to the appropriate individual(s).
  • Supports the Office of University Safety by serving as an instructor of departmental personnel during training and functioning as a dispatcher when directed.
  • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, attending professional development courses, and attending training required by the Director, University Safety or designee.
  • Contributes to the overall success and morale of the Office of University Safety by adhering to the Office of University Safety Policy and Procedures Manual.
