About The Position

The Team Member I (Collection and Distribution) position at Spartanburg Water involves performing various tasks related to the maintenance and repair of water distribution and collection systems. This role is essential for ensuring the proper operation of infrastructure, contributing to the organization's commitment to providing high-quality drinking water and wastewater services. Team members will work under general supervision and report to a Team Leader, engaging in both routine and emergency maintenance tasks.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of maintenance and repair of water distribution and collection systems.
  • Ability to operate various types of equipment and tools safely and effectively.
  • Basic understanding of safety rules and regulations in construction and maintenance work.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including digging and lifting.
  • Good communication skills to report issues and coordinate with team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in utility maintenance or construction work.
  • Knowledge of local water distribution and collection systems.
  • Certifications related to water system maintenance or safety.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of collection and distribution system infrastructure, roadways, and sidewalks.
  • Install, maintain, clean, repair, and replace system components such as water mains, service lines, and fire hydrants.
  • Exercise valves within the distribution system to ensure proper operation and perform minor maintenance.
  • Conduct above-ground inspections on collection system rights-of-way and larger diameter water lines.
  • Flush and monitor hydrants as part of the flushing program or in response to customer complaints.
  • Clean collection system lines as part of preventive maintenance and in response to stoppages.
  • Install flow monitoring equipment to identify potential infiltration and inflow sources.
  • Perform CCTV inspections of collection system lines during emergencies or as preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain and repair streets, sidewalks, and curb sections as needed.
  • Load and unload materials for transport to and from job sites.
  • Operate and maintain various types of equipment and tools required for the job.
  • Control traffic at job sites as needed.
  • Perform backfilling, grading, and excavation as necessary.
  • Dig holes and trenches as needed.
  • Locate water mains, service, and utility lines as required.
  • Verify existing utility conflicts by post holing.
  • Observe collection/distribution system infrastructure for leaks and other problems.
  • Form, pour, and finish concrete and apply asphalt as needed.
  • Perform minor carpentry and painting work as needed.
  • Read water meters as required.
  • Observe safety rules and use safety gear during activities.
  • Perform on-call duties after normal shift hours as necessary.
