Team Leader responsibilities and scope include: ability to delegate, communicate, and lead the team; knowledge of surgical, endoscopic and robotic instrumentation; surgical instrument decontamination processes using proper PPE; sterilization machine monitoring, load preparation and accurate documentation; instrument assembly, packing/wrapping and processing; understanding of Immediate Use Steam Sterilization (IUSS) and maintaining proper documentation; loading and operation of instrument steam sterilizer, plasma sterilizers, Washer Disinfectors, Ultrasonic Cleaners and management of cart washer; ability to learn, use, teach and troubleshoot the Impress Management System; understanding and adherence to safety practices related to chemicals, steam and other hazardous materials in the Sterile Processing environment; review of surgical schedule and identification and procurement of surgical instrument needs; communication and coordination of surgical needs with Leaders, Clinical Managers or designee to meet the needs of the surgical case load; coordination of incoming or outgoing surgical instruments or scopes for processing or repairs; collaboration with vendors for loaner needs according to VH policy; supply ordering if required in the department; communication and coordination with other SPD staff and Managers or designee to facilitate work load or instrument needs; accurate documentation of all sterilizer and washer controls and tests to ensure sterility; collaboration and communication including the submission of work orders with Biomed and Facilities for equipment outage; appropriate communication and troubleshooting with the Clinical Managers or Directors to resolve issues; adherence to VH policies and procedures.
