About The Position

The Team Leader – Market Solutions (Portfolio) leads a team of Market Solutions Managers and Product Owners responsible for developing and delivering customer-centric insurance solutions that advance Wellmark’s competitive strategy. In this role, you will drive discovery, coordination, enablement, and execution through the Agile product model, ensuring solutions for Medicare/Medicare Advantage, ACA, and Midsize segments are aligned to market insights, competitive strategy, and regulatory requirements. You will serve as a key connector across underwriting, finance, sales, operations, compliance, and external vendors, managing complex initiatives from concept through execution. In addition to portfolio execution, you will optimize team performance, strengthens scalable processes, manages backlog and dependencies, and ensures product strategies deliver measurable bottom-line results. The ideal candidate is an exceptional leader who can develop employees at varied levels in their careers. You are a strategic product leader with strong analytical acumen and deep experience in product management and strategy within a highly regulated environment. You bring the ability to translate market insights, customer needs, and regulatory requirements into actionable roadmaps that balance growth, risk, and operational feasibility. You are equally comfortable coaching and developing high-performing teams as you are presenting to senior leaders and influencing decisions. You anticipate interdependencies and navigate ambiguity with confidence and adaptability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or direct and applicable work experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of related experience: In product development, product management, or related role, with demonstrated abilities in working with insurance experts, including state and federal regulators such as CMS.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen, including an understanding of underwriting, financial metrics, etc.
  • Prior experience should reflect the ability to build, implement, and drive forward product strategies that achieve bottom-line results.
  • Strong relationship management skills including vendor management and vendor relationships.
  • Leadership in developing and delivering complex programs/projects from concept through implementation.
  • Skilled at ensuring quality, time, and stakeholder expectations are met while maintaining alignment with strategy.
  • Self-starter who works well under pressure while remaining adaptable, open to feedback, and focused during unanticipated challenges.
  • Ability to optimize team performance, balance team initiatives and work, enhance processes, and effectively lead teams through change.
  • Balances subject matter expertise and business acumen with strong understanding of customers’ needs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Effectively presents information and facilitates discussions with stakeholders, including senior or executive leaders.
  • Strong critical thinking skills. Thinks up/downstream and evaluates interdependencies.
  • Ability to measure and evaluate work processes, services, and products in order to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
  • Ability to support team members with creative problem solving and identifying/implementing process improvements.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook) and other web-based applications.
  • Ability to travel, if needed. (<5%).

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership of financial and human resources, primarily focusing on employee and leader coaching, development, performance improvement, coordination and budgeting for multiple staff, and department(s) specific functions/services.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high performing team of product and market experts fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Build strong relationships and work collaboratively with stakeholder to define and execute the product roadmaps in alignment with Wellmark’s overall business goals and objectives. Align products with market insights/requirements and segment plans and obtain agreement on priority of product ideas by securing buy in from leaders within the Client Solutions governance process.
  • Support the enablement of the Medicare/Medicare Advantage, ACA, and Midsize portfolios by collaborating with cross-functional and external partners to bring key components of the implementation to reality. Manage work and required deliverables of internal stakeholders to meet regulatory timelines and deadlines within the bid process and CMS timelines.
  • Support go-to-market team activities to accurately articulate product objectives and identify Sales enablement tools and capabilities.
  • Create and implement scalable, repeatable processes related to government programs and portfolio products including the management of the policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership in team backlog, other team dependencies, and streamline the execution of the top priorities. Resolve business resource and capacity issues, and ensuring products stay on track. Act as a primary point of contact for day-to-day operational project issues or complaints.
  • Identify opportunities and drive execution for Wellmark to continuously improve current insurance products. Actively maintain working relations between key stakeholder support groups to ensure product team data is accurate, standard processes are in place and practiced consistently, and stakeholders are kept informed regarding product results.
  • Partner with stakeholders to assess value and prioritize features and stories to ensure work focuses on those with a maximum value aligned to the product strategy. Manage multiple multi-faceted initiatives to meet needs on a timely basis and provide leadership in team backlog, other team dependencies, and streamline the execution of the top priorities.
  • Effectively build and maintain working relationships with vendors, customers and/or other external partners. Manage the daily interactions and the relationship between Wellmark and its ancillary vendors including oversight for quarterly, semi-annual, and annual business reviews as appropriate involving the correct internal and external stakeholders.
