About The Position

This position supervises the daily activities of the Boiler and Refrigeration maintenance crew to ensure maximum productivity and plant reliability. This position will be heavily involved in the operation and maintenance of the plant’s Boiler as well as the Ammonia Refrigeration system and will have specific duties in the PSM program.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree in engineering, food science or related field preferred, plus 1 year minimum experience OR 4 years minimum maintenance, engineering or supervisory experience in the food processing industry.
  • Boiler and Refrigeration experience preferred.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Strong PC skills, to include Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to support a 24-hour a day, 7 days per week operation.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb steps & ladders and work in variable work environments.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes a safe working environment and safe work practices by ensuring that meaningful safety meetings are conducted with the crew.
  • Identifies and eliminates safety hazards in the workplace.
  • Supports plant safety program.
  • Strives to improve the safety performance of the maintenance craft persons through counseling and training.
  • Sets expectations for housekeeping in the shop and on the job site and follows up.
  • Ensures that unused materials are returned to stock when jobs are completed.
  • Ensures compliance inspections are completed.
  • Completes all required paperwork accurately including time cards, completed work orders, Precision Maintenance and Reliability Forms, Preventive Maintenance Checklists and Permits, etc.
  • Sets expectations and completes performance evaluations with employees on an annual basis.
  • Disciplines employees if required.
  • Manages safety, quality, duration, cost and thoroughness of the craft person’s work.
  • Identifies and enforces expectations and minimum acceptance criteria for the quality of work.
  • Provides technical assistance to the maintenance craft persons.
  • Handles craft persons’ concerns.
  • Identifies and develops training for continuously improving the skills of the craft persons.
  • Evaluates the craft person’s job performance and develops and implements appropriate measures for improvement.
  • Works with crew Planner to meet crew needs.
  • Works with Planner and area production leader to schedule daily activities for the area crew and backshift.
  • Generates printed work orders to distribute to the crew for scheduled work.
  • Ensures work schedule and work orders are posted.
  • Matches craftsmen with skills required to do the work.
  • Schedules crew to develop job skills.
  • Develops, coordinates, and executes plans for emergency work.
  • Challenges emergency work that disrupts the daily schedule.
  • Follows up on job overruns and interruptions.
  • Holds employees accountable for quality, productivity and efficiency.
  • Audits job site periodically to ensure work is progressing as planned.
  • Keeps the Area Production Leader properly abreast of barriers which may impact the weekly schedule.
  • Ensures that the next job is always ready.
  • Manages overtime and makes overtime assignments.
  • Identifies ways to reduce maintenance costs.
  • Assists with the coordination of contractor work in the area.
  • Understands who the customers are and what their needs are and develops a strong relationship with operations.
  • Communicates frequently with Operations, Engineering, the Production Area Leader, the Maintenance Manager, and Planner.
  • Reviews shift logs for action items and communicates with them as appropriate.
  • Attends daily production meeting to identify potential maintenance problems.
  • Identifies reliability issues and acts to correct.
  • Involves project/reliability engineer when appropriate.
  • Discusses the cause of equipment failure with craft persons.
  • Handles suggestions by craft persons, operators and management personnel for equipment reliability and maintenance efficiency issues.
  • Promotes and leads in Root Cause Failure analysis.
  • Serves as a technical resource for eliminating 'bad actors'.
  • Supports the Preventive Maintenance/Predictive Maintenance (PM/PdM) program by ensuring the timeliness and high quality of preventive and predictive maintenance work.
  • Measures Results: Compliance to daily schedule, Percent Break in Work Overtime performance, Safety statistics, Percent equipment in vibration alarm, Preventive Maintenance/Predictive Maintenance (PM/PdM) route compliance, Budget Compliance.
