About The Position

The Team Leader, ARD is responsible for people management and the development and implementation of analytical procedures and specifications in support of the development and manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for traditional synthetic molecules (including potent) and peptides. Primary analytical techniques include chromatography (HPLC/UPLC, GC, and IC), Spectroscopy (LC-MS, GC-MS, NMR, ICP-MS, FTIR and UV-Vis), and physical properties (particle size, water content, etc.). The role will function as the primary contact on one or more development programs. In-depth involvement with the project team and hands-on laboratory experience are required. This role is 100% on site at our Devens, MA facility.

Requirements

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry or equivalent with minimum of 8 years’ experience in method development and validation for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs).
  • Experience with LC, GC, GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, ICPMS, SEC-MALS, IC, spectroscopy, and wet chemistry.
  • Proven leadership in GMP settings, including team management and project execution, coupled with strong mentoring and coaching abilities.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to lead projects, work independently and in teams, and effectively interact with clients and stakeholders
  • Ability to work and lead projects and provide direction to various levels of analytical Chemists and Scientists.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret English-language chemical periodicals, scientific journals, and regulatory documents. Experienced in identifying and managing risks and change.
  • Ability to write clear and concise technical reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead high‑quality analytical project delivery with strong scientific rigor, ensuring timelines, scope, and customer expectations are met through proactive and flexible execution.
  • Provide technical and scientific leadership by applying data‑driven insights to guide project teams and inform internal and external decision‑making.
  • Serve as a primary technical point of contact for clients, providing timely project updates and resolving technical challenges in real time.
  • Lead and perform the design, development, validation, and execution of phase‑appropriate analytical methods in compliance with ICH and Health Authority guidelines
  • Perform and oversee release and stability testing for starting materials, intermediates, and APIs for both development and GMP programs; review and approve analytical data generated by others.
  • Author, review, and approve analytical methods, method qualification/validation/transfer documents, SOPs, technical reports, and other GMP documentation.
  • Ensure full compliance with cGMP, Quality, Regulatory, and Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) requirements, acting as a role model for regulatory and operational excellence.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and compliant documentation; support audit readiness and participate in Quality, Regulatory, and EH&S audits with regulatory agencies, customers, and internal teams.
  • Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation to ensure reliable performance and high‑quality data generation.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with chemistry development, quality control, and regulatory affairs partners to ensure successful project execution and inspection readiness.
  • Communicate effectively in written and verbal formats to clearly present research results, technical strategies, and project plans to diverse stakeholders.
  • Contribute to team and organizational growth by mentoring staff, driving performance improvements, delivering technical training, and promoting a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
