About The Position

Join the Facilities Operations and Maintenance team, a highly responsive and knowledgeable crew providing outstanding service for Facilities Services and to the university community. Engineering & Technical Support , a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive engineering and technical support to the maintenance groups and other departments in service of the University’s operations. Our teams provide a comprehensive array of qualified services, backed by our licensed and certified technicians, to this end, we offer opportunities for continuing education, as well as various stipends for additional trade licenses. Our team of trained trade experts are well-matched for the university’s operational and maintenance needs, whether the facility is a brand new laboratory of our iconic Tower. This position is required to occasionally work on-call.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a field related to the work to be performed.
  • Five years of progressive experience in the field of facilities engineering, construction, and project management.
  • Eligible for Professional Engineering license within one year of hire.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree.
  • Professional Engineer or other advanced licenses.
  • More than ten years of experience in facilities engineering, construction, and project management.
  • Experience with UT systems, programs, software such as FAMIS, DEFINE, WORKQS, WORQSpace, and Tableau.
  • Experience in general building maintenance, operations, building systems, construction process.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the engineering and project management efforts for the repair and replacement of major equipment across campus.
  • Lead and manage a team of engineers and technicians, providing guidance, support, and mentorship.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the maintenance, repair, and replacement of major equipment.
  • Oversee project management activities, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Oversees facilities involvement with major construction quality assurance, commissioning, and warranty management.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to prioritize and coordinate projects.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Disseminate information and directive from FOM leadership to team in order to achieve maximum success in meeting client and UT mission and vision.
  • In collaboration with Assistant Director for Engineering and Technical Support, develop commonalities and best practices, and identify the right work at the right time to deliver the highest value.
  • Mentor, guide, manage engineering and technical staff individually, and as a collective team.
  • Lead team of engineers and other professionals providing facilities engineering and project management services for higher education, research and healthcare projects for all UT Austin campuses.
  • Lead one or more critical projects in support of client-identified needs.
  • Effectively communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Prioritize and allocate resources to ensure delivery of key initiatives, and maintain agility to maximize resource utilization against ongoing changing needs of clients.
  • Interpret information and ascertain a plan of action, utilizing existing resources and staff.
  • Perform other job related functions as assigned.
  • Serve on committees, task forces, etc., to improve the departmental mission.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.
  • Lifts, pushes, pulls 50 pounds.
  • Will be required to drive a University vehicle as necessary.
  • Maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy: UTS157 Section 2.5.4.
  • May volunteer for the on-call program.
