Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the laboratories perform more than 19 million tests a year. In addition to IU Health, laboratory testing services are provided to hospitals and physicians across the country. The Medical Laboratory Scientist Team Lead at the LAB performs laboratory tests on patient specimens and provides information for the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of diseases. Maintains records of performance and utilizes independent judgment to generate acceptable test results within quality control standards. May participate in research and development activities. Instructs students, laboratory and non-laboratory staff on laboratory procedures and techniques. Performs all tasks according to standard operating procedures. May work on the development and modification of procedures and assumes additional responsibilities as outlined by management or the laboratory director. Provides technical, administrative and logistical instruction and support. Consistently acts as a key resource person for staff inside and outside of the department.

  • Perform laboratory tests on patient specimens.
  • Provide information for the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of diseases.
  • Maintain records of performance and generate acceptable test results within quality control standards.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related sciences.
  • 1-3 years of training/experience in high complexity testing in the respective specialty.
  • Appropriate certification by ASCP, AMT, NCA or equivalent certification.
  • In-depth knowledge of various complex and lengthy laboratory techniques and procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of specialized testing equipment and routine maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to maintain quality control and other records.
  • Ability to use computer to enter and retrieve test results.
  • In-depth knowledge of standard operating procedures and testing techniques.
  • Analytical skills to make quantitative and qualitative observations.
  • Ability to work independently; handle constant interruptions and concurrent tasks.
  • Knowledge of all laboratory safety regulations and protocols.
