About The Position

The Shipping Team Lead I is a hands-on working leader responsible for the safe and efficient movement, organization, and preparation of materials for shipping, receiving, and production, while supporting daily dock operations by guiding team members, monitoring workflow and materials, ensuring product quality and safety standards, and maintaining organized staging to support overall production and operational goals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of experience in a production or team-support role; leadership exposure preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to foster teamwork.
  • Forklift and warehouse/material-handling experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift/move product up to 50 lbs. unassisted and 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent change.
  • Basic computer and scanning system knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the Core Values of Comfort Research in daily actions, execution of tasks and interactions with others.
  • Safely oversee and participate in the movement of incoming and outgoing shipments, ensuring materials are handled carefully, loading and unloading is completed efficiently, and operational schedules are met.
  • Coordinate and monitor day-to-day dock workflow to ensure tasks are completed safely, on time, and to standard.
  • Arrange, stage, and maintain materials in an orderly and accessible manner, ensuring proper inventory placement and efficient retrieval for shipping, receiving, or inventory verification.
  • Apply and verify accurate labeling of all materials to support inventory accuracy, quality control, and shipping or internal tracking requirements.
  • Prepare and position materials in designated staging areas based on shipping schedules, work orders, or dock priorities to minimize delays and maintain smooth workflow.
  • Perform in-process checks to confirm materials, quantities, and documentation align with shipping or receiving requirements.
  • Train, coach, and assist dock employees on standard operating procedures (SOPs), job aids, equipment operation, and safe material-handling practices.
  • Monitor material flow, dock supplies, and space utilization; communicate proactively to prevent congestion, shortages, or downtime.
  • Support daily staffing needs by ensuring team members are assigned to appropriate dock functions and resources are aligned to workload demands.
  • Troubleshoot minor dock equipment, labeling, or process issues and escalate larger concerns to maintenance or leadership as needed.
  • Encourage and enforce compliance with safety procedures, PPE requirements, lockout/tagout practices, and 5S standards.
  • Perform and support housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, organized, and safe dock environment.
  • Assist leadership by providing input on team performance, supporting coaching conversations, and reinforcing accountability.
  • Maintain accurate records related to shipments, dock activity, material movement, and operational metrics as required.
  • Help onboard and cross-train employees across dock and warehouse functions to support flexibility and coverage.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, participating in problem-solving, process improvements, or kaizen activities related to dock operations.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and fun within the dock team.
  • Support cross-functional teams in shared goals and initiatives.
