About The Position

We are seeking a qualified and experienced GAL attorney to join our team Luzerne County team. As a GAL attorney, you will represent children who are involved in court proceedings related to abuse, neglect, or dependency. Your primary responsibility will be to advocate for the best interests of the child and ensure their safety and well-being. Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a practicing law, preferably in family law or a related field and 3 years experience as a GAL.
  • Knowledge of Pennsylvania's laws related to child welfare and family law.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Applicant must possess a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and be a member in good standing of the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
  • Applicant must possess two years of progressively responsible experience in professional legal work.
  • Applicant must show strong oral and written communication skills and have a proven track record of handling numerous court hearings and/or trials with the ability to handle a large case load with time constraints.
  • Applicant must show an ability to provide sound legal representation to clients.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

  • Representing children in court proceedings as a GAL attorney.
  • Conduct interviews with the child, parents, and other relevant parties to gather information about the case.
  • Investigate the circumstances surrounding the case to develop a comprehensive understanding of the situation.
  • Advocate for the best interests of the child and ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Participate in court hearings, mediations, and other proceedings as necessary.
  • Monitor the child's situation and make recommendations to the court as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals involved in the case, such as social workers, attorneys, and judges.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to the case.
  • Attend training sessions and stay up to date with relevant laws and regulations.
