About Team Kentucky Internship Program The Team Kentucky Internship Program brings talented and motivated college students into the world of public service. The program provides meaningful and relevant work experience, professional development activities, and offers interns networking opportunities with other interns across the Commonwealth, all while working alongside program and field professionals, state government leaders. The Team Kentucky Internship Program is a prestigious and competitive program; therefore, interested applicants must complete an online application and be vetted through an interview process. Those selected for the program will perform valuable work in our state agencies. To be considered for a position in the Team Kentucky Internship Program, applicant must: Be enrolled at an accredited Kentucky post-secondary school or other educational institution approved by the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet. Be in good standing with the school with at least a 2.5 grade point average at hire. Graduating high school seniors enrolled in college courses with a 2.5 GPA may also qualify and apply to participate in the program. Candidates must be 18 years of age by May 15, 2026. Interested applicants must upload their unofficial transcript when applying to TKIP positions. Program Requirements - Attend TKIP Orientation Attend at least 1 Professional Development Day Attend at least 1 Agency Tour Complete 300 working hours throughout the program Submit the final project Attend TKIP Reception About the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management - The Kentucky Division of Emergency Management (KYEM) is the state coordinating agency that partners with local governments, state and federal agencies, and the private sector to enhance preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigate crisis events. Responsibilities: Coordination of all state and federal government resources in the event of natural or manmade disasters and emergencies throughout the Commonwealth. KYEM coordinates with county emergency management officials and first responder teams through 10 Area Managers. Vision: To build a Commonwealth that will sustain and improve the capability to successfully mitigate against, prepare for, respond to, and recover from all-hazard related emergencies and disasters. Objective: Provide a comprehensive emergency management system to protect the communities of the Commonwealth of Kentucky from disasters and emergencies in partnership with local, state, and federal agencies. KYEM Mission: Serving the Commonwealth through the responsibilities, vision, and objectives as set forth in Kentucky Revised Statutes Chapter 39. A Day in the Life - Become familiar with, interpret and implement local, state and national emergency management orders and policies. Conduct research, data collection and analysis on emergency management best practices. Participate in disaster response exercises and drills. Work with and learn about Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD), Recovery and Individual Assistance programs. Assists in the review and development of emergency plans and procedures. Prepare reports and presentations on emergency management topics. Communicate programmatic information and findings to staff, partners and public. Requirements

  • Be enrolled at an accredited Kentucky post-secondary school or other educational institution approved by the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet.
  • Be in good standing with the school with at least a 2.5 grade point average at hire.
  • Graduating high school seniors enrolled in college courses with a 2.5 GPA may also qualify and apply to participate in the program. Candidates must be 18 years of age by May 15, 2026.
  • Must be 18 years of age at the time of employment.
  • Must be enrolled on a full-time basis in high school as a graduating senior currently enrolled in college level courses OR a college-level student enrolled at an accredited Kentucky post-secondary school or other educational institutions approved by the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet.
  • Applicants must furnish proof of enrollment in such a program to the Personnel Cabinet.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
  • Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
