About The Position

The Team Kentucky Internship Program brings talented and motivated college students into the world of public service. The program provides meaningful and relevant work experience, professional development activities, and offers interns networking opportunities with other interns across the Commonwealth, all while working alongside program and field professionals, state government leaders. The Team Kentucky Internship Program is a prestigious and competitive program; therefore, interested applicants must complete an online application and be vetted through an interview process. Those selected for the program will perform valuable work in our state agencies.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled at an accredited Kentucky post-secondary school or other educational institution approved by the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet.
  • Must be in good standing with the school with at least a 2.5 grade point average at hire.
  • Graduating high school seniors enrolled in college courses with a 2.5 GPA may also qualify and apply to participate in the program.
  • Candidates must be 18 years of age by May 15, 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Acquire understanding of the state OSH program and the federal OSHA program by learning requirements for compliance with occupational safety and health laws and regulations.
  • Gain experience in the Occupational Safety and Health program by assisting and observing experienced safety and health consultants and compliance officers in the interview of employees and inspection of workplaces to detect safety and health hazards.
  • Become familiar with using and taking inventory of various types of personal protective equipment, such as steel toe boots, hard hats, hearing protection and safety glasses.
  • Learn to take photos, calibrate equipment, monitor for solvents and particulates, conduct noise and heat monitoring, take measurements and screenings, calculate time weighted averages and develop case files.
  • Learn to conduct research on safety and health topics and assist in writing reports, developing training modules, creating presentations and developing webinars.
  • Gain experience by accompanying safety and health consultants and compliance officers on surveys, trainings and partnership visits.

Benefits

  • Undergraduate Student - $16.444 per hour
  • Graduate Student - $19.096 per hour
  • Additional compensation ($1/hour) for each year that they return as an Intern after previously completing the program.
  • Eligible for overtime pay.
