About The Position

The Team Development Trainer serves as a subject-matter expert in conflict resolution, employee relations education, communication effectiveness, and team dynamics. This role is instrumental in advancing HomeFirst’s culture of respect, belonging, accountability, and trauma-informed practice across the organization. As a key member of the Training & Development team, the Team Development Trainer designs and delivers high-impact learning experiences that address team conflict, communication breakdowns, performance concerns, and cultural challenges. The role partners closely with frontline supervisors and people leaders to build practical skills that strengthen employee relations outcomes, improve retention, and enhance overall team effectiveness. This is a highly visible, high-impact position that integrates instructional design expertise with facilitation, collaborative problem-solving, coaching, and relationship-centered engagement. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social services, Psychology, Human Resources, Organizational Development, or related field, or minimum three years of equivalent experience.
  • 2–4 years of experience in training, facilitation, conflict resolution, coaching, employee relations, mediation, or organizational development.
  • Strong knowledge of interpersonal communication, workplace conflict dynamics, group behavior, or trauma-informed practices.
  • Exceptional facilitation skills with comfort leading difficult or emotionally charged conversations.
  • Certification or willingness to obtain in areas of mediation, conflict resolution, coaching, or emotional intelligence (e.g., Mediation Training, CPI, Crucial Conversations).
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse teams in high-stress, human-services or community-based environments.
  • Strong writing and curriculum design abilities.
  • Valid CA Driver License
  • Reliable personal vehicle & insurance
  • Able to perform sedentary work
  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs. on occasion
  • Ability to use keyboard and read computer screens for extended periods
  • Able to stand/sit for extended periods, kneel, reach and bend related to the duties
  • Candidates should be flexible and available to work outside standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed to support training initiatives and ensure successful delivery.

  • Experience in homelessness services, housing, behavioral health, or a nonprofit serving vulnerable populations.

  • Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese.

Responsibilities

  • Training Design & Facilitation (50%)
  • Design and deliver specialized trainings focused on: Conflict resolution Communication and feedback Trauma-informed and empathy-based interactions Relationship-building within diverse teams Navigating difficult conversations Professional boundaries Team culture and cohesion Managing interpersonal conflict in high-stress environments
  • Facilitate interactive workshops, role-plays, small-group coaching, and scenario-based learning.
  • Adapt training for staff at all levels, frontline, supervisors, directors, and executive leaders.
  • Tailor content for program-specific challenges, using examples relevant to homelessness services, shelters, outreach, and case management environments or other relevant HF work.
  • Targeted Interventions for Sites & Teams
  • Facilitate intensive trainings or multi-session engagements with sites impacted by: High turnover Communication breakdowns Team conflict or interpersonal tension Elevated complaints or investigations Performance management challenges
  • Partner with HR Generalists and People Services leadership to design “wrap-around” training interventions aligned with corrective action plans or culture reset efforts.
  • Conduct follow-up coaching or refresher modules as needed.
  • Collaboration & Consultation
  • Partner with Employee Relations, HRGs, and People Services leadership to understand trends and emerging training needs.
  • Consult with program leaders to assess team dynamics and recommend appropriate training responses.
  • Serve as a subject-matter resource for training coordinators to incorporate conflict-resolution and communication frameworks into their curriculum.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects that advance organizational excellence and retention.
  • Curriculum Standards
  • Create trauma-informed, culturally responsive training materials using adult-learning best practices.
  • Develop competency-aligned curriculum that reinforces HomeFirst values.
  • Update and refine materials based on learner feedback, agency needs, and emerging ER trends.
  • Contribute to blended-learning initiatives, including e-learning, micro-learning, manager toolkits, and quick reference guides.
  • Learning Management System
  • Utilizing the agency’s LMS to develop and assign trainings plans
