About The Position

A teaching principal is defined as an individual who is assigned to teach at least half time and is also assigned as the administrator of the school. As the principal, they direct and coordinate educational, administrative, and financial activities of the school by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors as delegated.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university required; Master’s Degree or higher preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience preferred.
  • Current Seventh-day Adventist Administrator’s Certificate.
  • Basic word processing
  • School SIS system
  • Basic website and social media platforms
  • High level of ability to read, analyze, and interpret common educational journals and financial reports.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and board of directors.
  • Basic skills in the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • High level ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in any situation from a simple level to major conflict management.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, walk, stand and sit.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and evaluates educational program as the instructional leader for the school to ensure best models of instruction are taking place conformance to state and NAD curriculum standards.
  • Gathers and analyzes data from multiple sources to use in making decisions related to student academic growth and school improvement.
  • Appropriately involves others in the various planning processes and management decisions of the school that include educational and behavioral policies for students.
  • Demonstrates and communicates a working knowledge and understanding of, and compliance with, school and conference policies and procedures.
  • Directs preparation of student handbooks, class schedules, cumulative records, and attendance reports.
  • Directs school building and property maintenance, safety and security.
  • Directs/oversees recruiting, marketing and enrollment strategies.
  • Works with school treasurer and conference to develop and monitor school budget.
  • Instruct students, assign lessons, maintain classroom management, administer assessment and communicate regularly with parents.
  • Participate in regular professional development to maintain teaching credential and stay current with curriculum and instruction.
  • Accepts responsibility for all the activities of the school.
  • Oversees supervision of non-teaching staff such as secretarial, janitorial, maintenance, etc.
  • Disseminates information in a timely manner to school community through multiple sources.
  • Models and collaboratively communicates clear and appropriate expectations of have a safe and secure campus and facilities that include playground and classroom safety, first aid kits, fire drills, disaster preparedness plan, and harassment/bullying policy in the school handbook.
  • Promotes clear and appropriate rigorous expectations of mutual respect, compassion, empathy and kindness for students, staff, parents and the school community.
  • Utilizes share decision-making and collaboration to build relationships with students, staff, families and the school community.
  • Listens and responds to the concerns of students, staff, families and the school community in a visible and approachable manner.
  • Exemplifies school’s core values.
  • Models professional behavior daily in and out of school (e.g. confidentiality, attitude, appearance, demeanor and use of social media).
  • Conveys culturally responsive sensitivity.
