About The Position
The Teaching Lab Specialist II is responsible for maintaining the teaching prep room and classrooms in excellent order, which includes ordering, maintaining, and storing all scientific materials and equipment. The role involves categorizing all chemicals based on proper safety guidelines, updating Gator Tracs on all sensitive scientific materials including SOP's and Chemical Hygiene Plans, and ensuring lab compliance with all biosafety and lab safety regulations. The specialist will also be responsible for annual EH&S and bio safety inspections as well as annual inventory of equipment and chemicals. Additionally, the position ensures compliance with federal regulations for hazardous waste disposal and serves as the department biosafety officer/safety coordinator and Microbiology Teaching Lab Hazardous Waste Manager. Training for all undergraduate, graduate, student assistants, and OPS workers on proper hazard waste disposal is also a key responsibility.
