About The Position

Under the direction of the Association Director of Healthy Living, the Teaching Kitchen Instructor will inspire and teach others the passion of healthy cooking, be a strong role model for healthy living and lead dynamic and fun cooking demonstrations. The Teaching Kitchen Instructor will plan, prepare and lead cooking demonstrations at the New Berlin YMCA Wellness Center Teaching Kitchen as well as offsite at various corporate partner locations as needed. Prep work is limited to 1 hour per session and is paid at a different rate.

Requirements

• Experience or training in nutrition.
• Basic knife skills and ability to execute basic cooking techniques.
• Dynamic personality and excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to adapt and respond to a diverse audience.
• Experience implementing cooking demonstrations or classes.
• Food handler certification (or willing to obtain upon hire).
• Passionate about educating and inspiring others to prepare healthy meals.

Nice To Haves

• Registered Dietitian preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plans, prepares and leads cooking demonstrations for members, community participants and staff.
• Responsible for all aspects of the cooking demonstrations including shopping for needed ingredients, serving food to participants and washing dishes.
• Washes, peels, cuts and seeds fruits and vegetables and cleans and cuts meats, poultry and seafood.
• Maintains food safety, including cleaning and sanitation of all cooking equipment used in cooking demonstrations.
• Educates others in a way that people with less technical knowledge can understand.
• Speaks confidently and accurately about nutrition and answers questions from the audience.
• Stays up to date with the latest nutritional research and translates the information into practical advice.
• Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Employees are held responsible for all duties of the job.
