About The Position

The Teaching Kitchen Class Assistant position is a part-time, PRN role at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital - Integrative Kitchen, with hours scheduled based on the teaching kitchen class schedule. The primary responsibilities include extensive cleaning and sanitation tasks within the kitchen, such as dishwashing, pot washing, and general equipment cleaning, all in adherence to department policies and Board of Health Regulations. Additionally, the assistant will support patient care by performing various tasks like retrieving patient trays, managing floorstock, preparing nourishments, replenishing supplies, and maintaining the cleanliness of the doctor's lounge. The role also involves ensuring meal service readiness, practicing proper sanitation, managing supplies, waste disposal, and participating in quality assurance documentation, including temperature checks. Active participation in huddles, inservices, training, orientation, and meetings, along with completing annual CBTs, is also required to stay current with procedures and departmental changes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning tasks such as dishwashing, pot washing and general sanitation and cleaning kitchen equipment in accordance with the department policies and in compliance with Board of Health Regulations.
  • Use proper cleaning products and follow their specific directions and uses.
  • Be aware of MSDS and how to get information when concerns arise and follow Board of Health Regulations.
  • Run temperature strip through DISHMACHINE to ensure proper temperature.
  • Store all washed items (china, flatware, pots, and pans, etc.) to meet the operational needs of the specific areas.
  • Wash and sanitize pot and pans with the proper chemicals and in accordance to the Board of Health Regulations.
  • Assist in the delivery of patient care by conducting various support responsibilities and retrieving patient trays.
  • Adhere to area’s schedule and adapt to changes in daily worksheet to meet workload demands.
  • Pull floorstock from the floorstock sheets.
  • Pull and/or make nourishments prescribed by the patient’s physician or the dietitian.
  • Replenish all areas of food or non food items to ensure proper stock or display supply.
  • Pull and clean the doctor’s lounge.
  • Ensure that areas are ready for meal service.
  • Use proper serving utensils.
  • Keep the steam table area clean and neat for patient service.
  • Prepare, wrap, and date various items to ensure freshness.
  • Restock all items necessary for trayline needs.
  • Practice proper sanitation procedures (i.e.: gloves, hairnets/bouffants).
  • Perform sanitation procedures according to department policies in compliance with Board of Health Regulations.
  • Store all serving ware china, flatware, pots, and pans to meet operational needs.
  • Requisition and store supplies from the hospital and department storerooms to meet operation needs.
  • Remove and dispose of all garbage from areas of the department following department policies and Board of Health Regulations to provide a sanitary work environment.
  • Clean work areas, counters, tables, and equipment in performing daily and special cleaning assignments in accordance to department policies and Board of Health Regulations.
  • Wash and sanitize pots and pans in accordance with department policies and Board of Health Regulations.
  • Participate in QA/CQI documentation process.
  • Take temperatures to ensure proper food are achieved.
  • Document temperatures of all steam table items.
  • Participate in areas huddles, inservices, training, orientation, and meetings.
  • Attend huddles, inservices and training sessions to keep current with specific procedures, Accrediting Organization requirements and changes within the department and/or hospital.
  • Complete annual CBTs.
  • Attend orientation and area specific meetings to keep current on area specific changes or concerns and for a communication exchange with peers and management.
  • Continue to learn ways to which CQI can be applied to our areas to ensure customer satisfaction.
