About The Position
The Department of Interior Design and Merchandising at East Carolina University (ECU) is seeking applications for a non-tenure track position titled Teaching Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor. This role is a fixed-term nine-month appointment, commencing in August 2025, with the possibility of an earlier start in January 2025. The successful candidate will become part of a collaborative and enthusiastic community of educators and scholars dedicated to fostering student success and social mobility. The position entails teaching undergraduate courses in both residential and commercial design, with a focus on building relationships within the community and utilizing technology to connect with the industry. The faculty member will be expected to inspire students and promote academic rigor while managing a 4/4 course load that includes both studio and lecture formats across various subjects such as 2-D and 3-D visualization, drafting software like SketchUp, AutoCAD, or Revit, graphic presentations, design for wellness, interior construction, building systems, professional practice, and the integration of virtual reality and artificial intelligence into design education. The Department of Interior Design and Merchandising offers undergraduate degrees in Interior Design and Fashion Merchandising and Consumer Studies, with the Interior Design program accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). The department is also working towards accreditation from the Textile and Apparel Programs Accreditation Commission (TAPAC). The faculty is composed of talented individuals who are committed to the success of their students and the advancement of the department's mission.
