About The Position

The Teaching Fellows in the Humanities program at The University of Chicago is a two-year initiative aimed at enhancing the pedagogical skills and research profiles of current and recent graduate students. Teaching Fellows will engage in a community of practice focused on teaching, research, and professional development, while being appointed as full-time Lecturers starting September 1, 2025.

Requirements

  • Current or recent graduate students in the Humanities Division at the University of Chicago.
  • On track to receive or have received a PhD within 7 years of registration from a Ph.D. program in the Humanities Division.
  • Must have received their PhD no earlier than Spring Quarter 2024 or complete all degree requirements by July 30, 2025.
  • Identify a faculty sponsor for mentorship during the program.
  • Receive endorsement from their department chair.

Responsibilities

  • Teach four undergraduate courses per year, including at least one course in the Humanities or Arts Core.
  • Make progress on research activities, including revising the dissertation for publication and writing articles.
  • Participate in professional development programs under the supervision of faculty mentors.
  • Design and teach a self-designed course that meets departmental curricular needs.
