About The Position

The Learn Academy, formerly known as Creative Learning Center, is looking for a Teaching Fellow to join our team in Redwood City, CA! The Learn Academy is a state-certified, K-12 private day school in California for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other neurological disorders. Our comprehensive services - available across the South Bay, Peninsula, and San Francisco Bay Area - are designed to meet the unique needs of the whole student. We are a division of the LEARN Academy, a national leader in special education, academic intervention, and behavioral services for autism. Our Special Education Teachers work in a school-based setting and are responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an individual instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with policies. Intern Teachers will have support and training from credentialed supervisory teachers to assist with the required teacher duties.

Requirements

  • Valid California Special Education Credential (or enrolled in a program for certification).
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred OR intern student currently in Special Education program.
  • Autism specific or related certificate preferred - will be accepted if paired with another teaching credential.
  • Previous experience working with students with Autism preferred.
  • Must be able to assume a variety of postures (stoop, reach, stand, kneel, squat, sit, walk, lift, pull, grasp) for extended periods of time.
  • Must be willing and able to implement safety measures consistent with Professional Crisis Management Association (PCMA) such as: therapeutic holds and transportation procedures utilizing quick body movements in the course of maintaining the safety of students with special needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish speaking a plus. Not required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement student Individual Education Plans, individualized curriculum and lesson plans.
  • Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
  • Assist in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.
  • Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Work collaboratively with a team of OT's, SLP's, BCBA's, and supervisors.
