About The Position

The Teaching Fellow is an early-career educator who supports instruction, small-group learning, and student culture as part of an Arcadia Teacher Team. Each team includes one Expert Teacher, one Lead Teacher, and three Teaching Fellows serving a group of approximately sixty students. Teaching Fellows work closely with the Expert and Lead Teacher to prepare and deliver lessons, provide targeted support to students, and learn the craft of teaching through daily coaching and practice. This role is designed as a paid, full-time pathway into teaching. Teaching Fellows receive hands-on experience, frequent feedback, and access to a free teacher certification program, with the goal of growing into a Lead Teacher role over time.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Expert Teacher and Lead Teacher in delivering high-quality, standards-aligned lessons in a core content area.
  • Lead or co-lead small-group instruction, stations, or practice activities during the double core class block.
  • Provide individual support to students who need additional help with reading, writing, problem-solving, or organization.
  • Help implement classroom routines and procedures that keep the learning environment safe, structured, and focused.
  • Circulate during independent and group work to check for understanding, provide feedback, and keep students on task.
  • Participate in weekly lesson preparation and internalization with the Teacher Team, learning how to read and unpack high-quality instructional materials.
  • Help prepare and organize materials for upcoming lessons, including copies, manipulatives, lab materials, technology, and anchor charts.
  • Practice key parts of lessons (directions, checks for understanding, questions, and explanations) during rehearsal with the Expert and Lead Teacher.
  • Support grading of classwork, exit tickets, and other assignments under the guidance of the Expert or Lead Teacher.
  • Assist with collecting and organizing student data (exit tickets, quizzes, notes from small groups) so that the team can use it in weekly data meetings.
  • Provide reteach or practice support in small groups based on data and guidance from the Expert and Lead Teacher.
  • Help monitor student progress in assigned groups and share observations about student strengths and needs with the Teacher Team.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with students, learning their interests, strengths, and goals.
  • Consistently model and reinforce Arcadia’s expectations, routines, and language for student behavior and effort.
  • Support transitions between classes, arrival and dismissal routines, and school-wide events as assigned.
  • Communicate with families as appropriate (e.g., positive calls home, reminders, check-ins) in partnership with the Expert and Lead Teacher.
  • Participate actively in all Arcadia professional development, including summer training, weekly PD sessions, and coaching meetings.
  • Engage in frequent observation and feedback cycles with the Expert Teacher, working on specific, bite-sized action steps to improve practice.
  • Complete requirements of the partnered teacher certification program, including coursework, assessments, and observations, with support from Arcadia.
  • Reflect regularly on practice and set growth goals aligned to Arcadia’s instructional vision and the expectations for future Lead Teachers.
  • All members of the Arcadia team will perform other job-related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the school and our students.
