About The Position

The School of Engineering Design and Innovation within the College of Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time professional track (non-tenure-line) open-rank teaching faculty position. The School offers courses at both University Park and World Campus. The School offers courses related to the following programs: Engineering Design (EDSGN) Program: Courses within the program, particularly the cornerstone engineering design course, assist students in learning design processes, methods, and decision-making tools while engaged in team-based design projects. Effective use of communication skills and computer-aided analysis tools are an integral part of the cornerstone engineering design course. Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ENTI) Minor: Courses are taught in support of the Technology-Based Entrepreneurship or the Social Entrepreneurship cluster and assist students in obtaining skills attributed to entrepreneurial behavior and innovative thinking. Engineering Leadership Development (ELD) Program/ Engineering Leadership and Innovation Management (ELIM): Courses in this program provide students with the understanding of individual, team, and organizational leadership; business acumen, global competencies, and multicultural awareness; and innovation and management. Law, Policy, and Engineering (LPE) Program: Courses aim to provide new cross-disciplinary perspectives and tools required to solve complex multidisciplinary problems and address societal changes in science and technology policy, legal and regulatory policy, complex systems design, and anticipating technology trends. Doctor of Engineering in Engineering (D.Eng): This online program provides a deep understanding of advanced engineering and high-level leadership principles. Requirements

  • Qualifications at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor or Associate Teaching Professor include a master's degree or a Ph.D. in an engineering-related field by the start of the appointment and complementary teaching, industry, or other experience.
  • Evidence of excellent teaching potential and enthusiasm for interacting with students is required.
  • This position requires excellent writing and oral communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Applied experience and evidence of the ability to function in a multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary team environment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate is expected to teach up to five courses per year.
  • Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, student advising, curriculum development, curricular assessment, serve on departmental and college committees, and engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with faculty and industry partners.
  • Ongoing professional development and engagement in activities that support teaching excellence and program innovation are also essential components of the role.
