About The Position

The Department of Bacteriology invites applications for Teaching Faculty II. This position will coordinate and teach several microbiology courses with large enrollments in both the fall and spring semesters and is a position for an instructor in our undergraduate microbiology curriculum. Five faculty associates work together as a team, rotating through several different courses, including instructional laboratories and didactic courses for majors and non-majors. This position will also oversee undergraduate and graduate-level teaching assistants and cooperate with support personnel in the preparation of instructional materials, laboratory reagents and setup of the lab.

Requirements

  • Teaching experience leading a microbiology, biochemistry, molecular genetics, or related course at a secondary level or higher
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems, such as Canvas, Kaltura, Tophat, or Google suite to create announcements, inbox/messaging, discussions, assignment feedback, course organization/navigation
  • Ph.D. in Microbiology or related field required.

  • Experience with curriculum development
  • Experience in designing, implementing, and facilitating active and blended learning techniques is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in development of grant proposals for funding of model instruction programs
  • Works with faculty to identify and develop new methods of advancing instruction in the discipline
  • Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy and may train other staff in use of these techniques
  • May make presentations to faculty and to staff members on instructional programs and techniques
  • Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements
  • Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties
  • Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
  • Supervises the day-to-day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed
