The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a full-time Teaching Associate Professor in Foundations within the Department of Studio Arts, focusing on teaching foundation-level courses and upper-level courses in areas such as Drawing, Visual Thinking, and Printmaking. The position emphasizes integrative art-making and aims to contribute diverse perspectives to the program and departmental initiatives, starting in Fall 2025, pending budgetary approval.

  • Teach 3 courses per semester in foundations and upper-level courses such as Screenprint, Intaglio, Visual Thinking, and Drawing.
  • Meet with students beyond the classroom to address their educational needs.
  • Collaborate with other faculty to coordinate curricular plans.
  • Manage the printmaking and other teaching studios.
  • Engage in expected service activities that support teaching, studio areas, and the department, including committee work and student mentoring.
  • Participate in shared governance, potentially serving as Assistant Chair or Department Advisor.
  • Support the department and university through shared and rotating service efforts.
  • Graduate degree (MFA or equivalent).
  • Broad knowledge of various media including drawing, color theory, and printmaking.
  • Experience fostering creativity and critical approaches to visual culture and creative expression.
  • Expansive knowledge of art history, contemporary issues, and critical dialogue in the visual arts.
  • Effective communication, collaborative and organizational skills, and active participation within the department community.
  • Commitment to the values of equity, inclusion, accessibility, and diversity.
  • University level teaching experience.
  • Commitment to a professional exhibition record.
  • Knowledge of Canvas or other online LMS.
  • Full-time position with a teaching load of 3/3.
  • Opportunity to engage in committee work and student mentoring.
  • Participation in departmental governance and events.
