About The Position

The Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Wisconsin–Superior invites applications for an Ecologist to fill an annually renewable Teaching Assistant Professor of Biology & Environmental Science position beginning August 2026. We seek a dedicated teacher–scholar who will provide high-quality undergraduate instruction in ecology and related courses, incorporate evidence-based teaching methods and research practice, and collaborate with colleagues to strengthen the Biology and Environmental Science programs. The successful candidate will be committed to mentoring undergraduates, especially in senior-year research experiences, and to contributing to the university’s public liberal arts mission.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Biology, Ecology, or closely related discipline by August 31, 2026.
  • Evidence of successful college-level teaching experience as instructor of record or as graduate teaching assistant.
  • Academic and/or professional research background in ecology.
  • This position is currently ineligible for H1-B sponsorship.
  • A qualification for this position includes independent eligibility to work within the United States upon hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Biology, Ecology, or a related discipline
  • Experience in inclusive, student-centered teaching practices, including active learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor undergraduates in research projects and internships, ideally integrating the candidate’s own research program.
  • Experience developing and delivering online courses.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including working across disciplines and with community partners.

Responsibilities

  • Advises students on academic and career direction within a specific field of study
  • Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including assessment of student performance
  • May supervise student employees involved in development or delivery of instruction
  • Collaborates with department faculty and staff to develop teaching strategies relevant to the discipline
  • Contributes to the strategic development of curriculum and academic content through various mediums to ensure the integrity of the educational mission of the work unit
  • Contributes to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work including publications and presentations
  • Develops and designs curriculum and instructional material relevant to a course of instruction
  • Teach Ecology for biology and environmental science majors, as well as upper-division electives in the candidate’s area of expertise.
  • Teach introductory science courses for non-science majors as part of UW-Superior’s liberal arts foundation.
  • Deliver courses in face-to-face and online formats.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students, including supervision of research projects and internships.
  • Contribute to the service mission of the department, university, and community through participation on committees and outreach activities.
  • Complete required trainings and professional development as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
