About The Position

The Ottawa University Teaching Assistant - Nursing is responsible for collaborating with an assigned mentor to provide quality face-to-face didactic and/or clinical instruction for adult learners. The Teaching Assistant is committed to academic excellence in all areas of teaching and learning including theory, laboratory, and clinical instruction. Must demonstrate success through clinical and/or didactic instruction and active engagement within the discipline. Will collaborate with assigned mentor to contribute to Ottawa University’s educational programming and academic integrity to help adult learners be successful in the nursing program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Nursing (BSN) degree
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience
  • Enrollment in Ottawa University MSN-Nurse Educator Program
  • Completed online admissions application at: https://www.ottawa.edu/
  • REQUIRED application fee
  • Submission of official undergraduate transcripts (3.0 GPA – minimum requirement) earned bachelor’s degree.
  • Submission of a personal statement regarding career goals and three professional references.
  • Other items as identified by the specific academic program
  • A completed employment application is required.
  • Candidates should attach cover letter and resume.
  • All Graduate Assistants must be eligible to work in the United States and present the proper documentation to the Human Resources Department prior to beginning their graduate assistantship.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a combined total of 8 prelicensure BSN clinical groups and/or prelicensure BSN didactic courses
  • Didactic courses will be co-taught with Full Time Nursing Faculty
  • Clinical courses will be taught independently
  • Didactic courses and clinical courses will be assigned by Nursing Leadership Team based on nursing department needs
  • A minimum of two of the required courses must be clinical groups
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Model and encourage collaboration among University departments assuring effective communication and operations.
  • Understand the University’s policies and, procedures, and exercise good judgment accordingly.
  • Assure that University and student information is managed in a confidential and ethical manner in accordance with the University’s Code of Conduct and Ethics.
  • Provide leadership through conduct, attitude, and professionalism.
  • Represent the University to students, external groups, faculty, and staff in a way that reflects positively on the University.

  • The selected candidates will be granted tuition waiver (18 credit hours per year) for one of Ottawa University's graduate programs, a partial meal allowance and a bi-weekly living stipend paid over 12 months.
