The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is seeking Part-Time Contract Teaching Artists for its Kim Noltemy Young Musicians program, focusing on strings and woodwind instruments. This role is designed to nurture and empower youth through music education, emphasizing the transformative power of music in students' lives. Teaching Artists will lead group classes, manage classroom dynamics, and adapt to various teaching settings, all while promoting a collaborative and supportive learning environment.

  • Lead group classes for beginner to intermediate-level students in strings and woodwind instruments.
  • Manage classroom dynamics and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Prepare classrooms before classes begin and ensure readiness for teaching.
  • Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different instruments and student needs during sectional rehearsals.
  • Participate in evening and weekend performances and events as required.
  • Expertise in strings (violin, viola, cello, bass) or woodwind (clarinet, flute) instruments.
  • Basic classroom management skills.
  • Experience teaching beginner to intermediate-level students in a group setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of beginning music pedagogy and repertoire.
  • Punctuality, professionalism, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • A degree in music or music education.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Experience with El Sistema educational philosophy.
