About The Position

This role is responsible for learning and delivering the NDI New Mexico In-school curriculum and teaching methodology through our classes in the public schools, helping children and youth develop confidence and character through dance. Training takes place under the supervision of a master instructor in our award-winning curriculum and the core competencies of the NDI New Mexico pedagogy. Instructors are creative partners with a team of teaching artists and musicians to create choreography and lead public school students to success in their culminating performances. The Apprentice is responsible to their Program Artistic Director(s) for carrying out the mission and the policies of the organization.

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in job-related duties

Responsibilities

  • Training period includes paid apprenticeship learning under the guidance of a master teacher, and participating in training and enrichment workshops to learn the pedagogy and build teaching skills. Schedule can range from 3-12 hours/week
  • Prepares assignments and lesson plans for classes as directed by lead teaching artist
  • Works collaboratively with teaching and music team to create choreography for outreach programs
  • Works backstage in support of culminating performances for programs
  • Attends all enrichment workshops and staff meetings as needed
  • Follows NDI New Mexico program curriculum set by program director
  • Provides program director with required materials and information as needed
  • Subbing classes when available
  • Other duties as needed and mutually agreed upon
