About The Position

Under the supervision of the school principal, the Teacher is responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required. This includes comprehensive instructional planning, providing written lesson plans, and preparing in accordance with instructional program objectives. The teacher is expected to establish positive learning expectation standards for all pupils, evaluate their progress, and maintain current and accurate records of achievements. Instructional methods involve applying contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology, utilizing available instructional materials, participating in the development of new teaching techniques, and creating bulletin board and interest areas reflecting pupils' work. The role also requires exhibiting and applying knowledge of curriculum content relevant to subject areas and instructional levels. Furthermore, the teacher participates in programs to improve student attendance and promotes anti-vandalism initiatives. Maintaining reasonable rules of conduct within the classroom and on school grounds, consistent with the Chicago Public Schools' Uniform Discipline Code, is essential. This includes accurate attendance records and seating charts, encouraging student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept, and ensuring fairness and respect in teacher-pupil relationships. The teacher initiates and participates in conferences with parents, guardians, administrators, and ancillary personnel, communicating on academic progress, attendance, and conduct. Participation in in-service and professional staff meetings is also required, utilizing provided information and materials. The position may involve coordinating and attending class field trips and working in extra-curricular and after-school activities, as well as utilizing community resources.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of all student teaching requirements.
  • Successful completion of all course work required to obtain the appropriate teaching certificate(s) issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Possess at least one of the following valid teaching licenses issued by the Illinois State Board of Education: Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), properly endorsed for this position.
  • Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of contemporary principles and practices of teaching.
  • Knowledge of classroom and behavior management techniques.
  • Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs.
  • Ability to cooperate with the school faculty and administration in the development and implementation of an articulated program of instruction.
  • Ability to work effectively with pupils, parents and guardians, staff members, and community representatives in providing an appropriate educational program.
  • Ability to understand the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils.
  • Skill in the application of contemporary principles and practices of teaching.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Skill in exercising sound and professional judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional planning, including written lesson plans and preparation in accordance with instructional program objectives.

  • Utilize appropriate resources available in the community.
