Position: World Language Teacher, Spanish ( One-year Appointment) Fletcher Maynard Academy Extended Day (8-hour position)/ World Languages The Fletcher-Maynard Community: Fletcher Maynard Academy is an inclusive, student-centered elementary school serving students from PreK to Grade 5 in the heart of Cambridge. The Opportunity: Under the supervision of the Principals and the Coordinator of World Languages, the Spanish teacher will be responsible for instruction using a proficiency approach based on ACTFL standards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in fostering a positive and supportive classroom environment, where students are encouraged to develop intellectual curiosity, a love for the target language, and an appreciation of its culture. The position calls for a person with the ability to adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of all students and work collaboratively with grade level teams/colleagues, to establish design units that integrate ELA and math standards in project based learning opportunities. This interdisciplinary project based approach is strategically intended to integrate language and core content to enrich and support learning. A background in educational technology is desirable so that students can engage in research projects. The teacher will be expected to teach a range of learners and provide multiple access points for all learners. In the World Language Program, there will be a focus on all skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. There will also be a cultural component where students will understand the cultures of the many countries in which Spanish is spoken. Teachers will attend both school and World Language Department meetings. The Spanish teacher will be required to work closely with the Principal and the district coordinator to ensure that all required units are taught. The prospective teacher should have knowledge of effective use of relevant technology, possess knowledge of best practices for effective second language acquisition, and be able to work collaboratively with teachers to plan integrated units/lessons. In addition, the candidate should possess knowledge of differentiated instruction techniques and have experience designing and implementing projects and performance assessments.
