About The Position

Create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that help students develop technical and professional skills in the field of welding and manufacturing, preparing them for industry certifications, employment, and lifelong success. As the instructor launching our brand-new Welding program at the College Station ISD Career and Technical Education Center, you will play a vital role in building the foundation of this program—developing curriculum, setting up the welding lab and fabrication space, and recruiting students who are eager to explore careers in the manufacturing, fabrication, and industrial technology fields.

Requirements

  • Applicants may qualify through one of the following routes: Extensive industry experience in welding or a related field may be considered in place of a teaching certificate, as College Station ISD is a District of Innovation and can issue local certification based on relevant work experience.
  • OR Valid Texas Teaching Certificate in one of the following areas: Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources: Grades 6–12 Agricultural Science and Technology: Grades 6–12 Any Vocational Agriculture Certificate Secondary: Industrial Arts Industrial Technology Technology Education: Grades 6–12 Trade and Industrial Education: Grades 6–12 (requires appropriate work approval) Trade and Industrial Education: Grades 8–12 (requires appropriate work approval) Trade and Industrial Workforce Training: Grades 6–12 (requires appropriate work approval) Vocational Trades and Industry (requires appropriate work approval)
  • Knowledge of welding techniques, fabrication processes, and metalworking tools
  • Understanding of manufacturing safety standards and procedures
  • Ability to instruct and manage students in both classroom and shop environments
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to acquire curriculum and instructional skills through district-provided training
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, productive, and industry-relevant welding lab
  • Enthusiasm for growing a new CTE program and connecting with local industry partners

Nice To Haves

  • AWS (American Welding Society) certifications, or NCCER certifications or the ability to obtain them
  • Experience in welding processes such as SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW
  • Knowledge of shop safety and industrial manufacturing practices

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's CTE curriculum and demonstrate written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and abilities.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, materials, and equipment for both classroom and shop instruction.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress and adjust instruction based on results.
  • Collaborate with special education staff to modify instruction for students with accommodations as outlined in IEPs.
  • Work with colleagues to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods that align with district and industry standards.
  • Supervise student practice in the welding shop and ensure compliance with all safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate safety and maintenance logs, equipment inventories, and student training records.
  • Encourage student professionalism, responsibility, and teamwork.
  • Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of College Station ISD.
  • Create a classroom and lab environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, tools, equipment, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials, tools, and supplies for the welding program.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, students, and colleagues regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Participate in staff development to enhance job-related skills and maintain industry safety and certification standards.
  • Stay informed about current trends, technologies, and best practices in welding and manufacturing education.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirement and qualification for the position.
  • Establish and maintain an organized and safe welding lab with functional welders, ventilation systems, and safety equipment
  • Collaborate with local industry partners, manufacturers, and trade organizations to provide guest speakers, demonstrations, and real-world experiences
  • Actively recruit and promote the welding program to potential students and families
  • Manage classroom and lab budgets, tool inventories, and safety compliance
  • Support student participation in SkillsUSA and other welding competitions or showcases travel may be necessary to supervise students competing at CTSO contests, stipends may be available and may vary depending on sponsor responsibilities
